KAW's Onam' 08 Megaevent - Postponed
Latest Update
As you might have heard, all the teachers of Bellevue School District are on an indefinite strike and as a result the School District has canceled all the events under the School District, including ours. We tried to explain to them that this is an event with over 600 attendees, but they informed us that they are helpless due to the Strike, as almost all of the supporting staff are also supporting the strke.We have tried our level best to switch the event to another venue, but unfortunately it's too late. So, we are left with no other option but to postpone the program. The exact date will be communicated very soon (No Schools in BSD can be booked now on account of the strike).
We understand that this is a very unfortunate situation. However this came at us with no forewarning and there is nothing the Executive Committee could have done about this. We sincerely apologize for any confusion and inconvenience this may have caused. Rest assured that we are trying our best to find another suitable location at an earliest date. KAW is hosting a grand Onam celebration on Saturday, September 6th, 2008 from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM at the Newport High School in Bellevue ( 4333 Factoria Blvd. SE Bellevue, WA 98006) - Seating Capacity 720 - Very close to I-405 exit 10... For dierctions, click here. Celebrations will start at 11.30 am with KAW's unique sumptuous kerala-style Onam Sadhya, a Buffet lunch for which all dishes will be made by ~160 families! The Onam Feast will be followed by the cultural extravaganza. Do not miss the greatest Malayali event of Northwest. You are welcome even if you are not a KAW member. KAW wishes you a wonderful and prosperous Onam and cordially invites you & family & friends to participate in this year's Onam celebrations.
Onam Event Details:
For ensuring the grand success of the Onam Fest, it's been decided to constitute a 25 member Onam Committee.. The committee, chaired by KAW President Ojus John has been organized into three sub committees - Food (led by Jayashree Iyer), Program (led by Pradeep Unny) & Reception (led by Biju Skariah). If you would like to volunteer to be part of the committee, let us know soon.
1. Onam Sadhya (11.30 AM to 1.00 PM)
KAW's Onam Sadhya is an occasion displaying the unparalleled unity of KAW, where we serve Onam Food for 600+ people by Potluck!!. If you still haven't signed up for a dish, kindly call one of the food coordinators for questions or to let them know about the dish(es) you intent to bring...

It's time to showcase the exemplary skills of the vast array of KAW talent..If you would like to perform for the Onam Fest, do let us know before Aug 30th midnight. Slight Preference will be given to Group programs. The slots will be filled on a First Come basis. So, hurry up! If you would like to do a group dance etc and can't find/form a team, let us know and we will publish your names here..Also, if you want to do/lead/coordinate a program but can't find enough artists, let us know that too..Also, if you would like be the emcee or become "Maveli" this year, send us a note.. ...Kindly email KAW Jt Secretary, Pradeep Unny.

Grand Stage Show "Manikilukkam" on June 15, 2008
This year's staegshow "Manikilukkam" was a megahit with a galaxy of 15 stars led by the Sultan of "Nadan Pattu", our own "KALABHAVAN MANI" and including bright young actress "Bhama" ("Kolakkuzhal Vili..fame), the big small "Undapakru" (Ajayan), Comedy Kings "Kalabhavan Shajohn", "Kalabhavan Prajod", "Nadirshah" etc performing to a full audience of more than 450+ people on June 15-th, 2008 at 6.30 pm at the Kentwood Performing Arts Center. As a special gift to our little ones, all the kids under 12 got in absolutely free!! KAW also served delicious food at a nominal cost. The show included Comedy Programs, Ganamela (Karaoke) and eye-capturing Dance sequences!! As promised, exactly 50% of the profits from this show goes to KAW's various charity programs primarily supporting orphaned kids in Kerala. ....Thanks to each attendee, and all the sponsors who made this event happen. Special accolades to Curry Leaf for serving the food, to each EC member for their phenomenal efforts and to Mr. John Titus for being the grand sponsor of the show."PrathibhaSangamam" on May 31st 2008
KAW’s Talent Festival "PrathibhaSangamam" was held at St Margaret's Episcopal Church (4228 Factoria Blvd SE, Bellevue, WA 98006) in Bellevue on May 31st from 2pm to 5pm.The talent fest included:
* National Anthem (both Indian and American).
* Individual/Group performances in Malayalam.
* Mini-quiz on Kerala.
* Dessert Cooking Competition - for kids (ages 12-18) as well as adults.
* "KAW Star Singer" Malayalam singing competition
Members also showcased talents in art, culinary items (such as jam, pickles etc), sculptures, jewelry and Indian clothes etc.
Thanks to prime coordinators Ajita and Jayashree for making this a great fun event.
KAW's Christmas/New Year event on Jan 6th
KAW hosted the annual Christmas/New Year celebration on Sunday, January 6th, 2008 from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the Interlake Performing Arts Center in Bellevue. Celebrations started with a catered Buffet lunch (Chicken Biriyani) at 12.05 PM followed by cultural fest by KAW members. KAW wishes you Merry Christmas & Happy New year and thanks all the 400+ people for participating in this year's celebrations. Special Thanks to KAW's lead Program/Food coordinators Ojus, Santhosh, Sanju, Ram & all other volunteers for coordinating this event. The Cultural Show had 16 distinct programs including Christmas Carols, Margamkali, Classical, Semi-classical, Folk & Cinematic Dances, Group Song by KAW Malayalam Class students, other Solo/Duet/Parody Songs, Comedy programs (2 Skits) etc. After the event, the elections to EC 2008 was held. A 14 member Executive Committee was elected with Ojus John as President & Jyothish Nair as Secretary. KAW hosted a grand Onam celebration on Sunday, September 16th, 2007 from 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the Sammamish Performing Arts Center in Bellevue. Celebrations started with a sumptuous Onam Sadhya (Buffet lunch) at 12.45 PM followed by the cultural extravaganza. KAW wishes you a wonderful and prosperous Onam and thanks all the 700+ people for participating in this year's Onam celebrations. Special Thanks to KAW's lead coordinators Neeni, Santhosh, Ram, Ojus & all other volunteers for coordinating a stupendously successful potluck Onamsadhya for so many people & to the volunteers & partipants for the outstanding stageshow laced with 20 classy items. Thanks to each KAW member for participating in this magnum event. "Summer in USA" showcased Comedy Programs led by Kalabhavan Shajohn, Kalabhavan Prajod & Kalabhavan Jayakumar, Ganamela (Karaoke) led by Franko, a unique Magic Show by Prof. Gopinath Muthukad's assistant Raj Kalesh and beautiful Classical, Folk as well as Cinematic Dances by Shalu Menon and party..!!!! Their sheer energy at the stage was just awesome to watch!..Undoubtedly, one of the best performances ever in USA by a troupe..The show started at 7.45 pm and ended at 11.15 pm. KAW also served delicious Food to all attendees at a nominal cost..Also, as a special gift to our little ones, all the kids under 15 got in absolutely free!!.. The proceeds from this show goes to KAW's charity programs.KAW sincerely thanks all the outstandingly dedicated EC members and other committed Volunteers, Grand Sponsors Mr. John Titus & Mr. A.P.Simon, all our other sponsors and each member of the audience for making this show one to cherish!!. KAW Talent Show & Musical Nite, Apr 21, 2007
KAW's first cultural programme of the year, "PrathibhaSangamam" (Talent Show & Musical Nite) on Sat, April 21st 2007 from 4.30 to 6.45 PM at the Mar Thoma Church Hall in Kent. KAW President Neeni George welcomed the audience. A very meaningful Mother's Day Message was delivered by Thomas George. Divya Sarah John performed the emcee's role with distinction. The program was totally free for KAW members. Free snacks were also served. KAW's bright young talents entertained the crowd with film/folk songs, dance, violin, carnatic music, Fancy Dress and Fashion Show. A short drama by kids on "Birbal & Akbar", scripted by Suneetha Ranjith, a Mother's day presentation (in the background) by Mili Ojus and a colorful "Anthakshari" program involving all audience added to the event. All the kids walked away with prizes and candies!!! KAW Secretary Ojus John rendered the Vote of Thanks. KAW is specially thankful to Mr. Mathew Joseph (AtHome Tution Inc) for sponsoring the Food for the event. KAW also thanks all the EC members, especially food coordinator Neeni George and Program coordinators Ojus John, Asha Sudheesh & Santhi Madhu. KAW members PM Mathew, Madhu Kangara, Latha Goraphy etc also supported the EC well. However it is a sad fact that inspite of all the best efforts put forward by the KAW EC, the attendance was not that great. EC exhorts all KAW members to use these forums to give our children a chance to showcase their various skills without inhibition..Thanks to all attendees!!.. KAW celebrated this year's Christmas and New Year on Saturday, 6th of January, 2007 at SHS Performing Arts Center in Bellevue. The program started at 2.15 pm after the catered "Biriyani" Lunch. Some of the highlights included a slide show capturing KAW's various activities in 2006, an outstanding "Margamkali" Dance, a unique "Ottamthullal", "The Final Judgement" - a Drama depicting Christ's last moments, Classical dances, Cinematic shows, Comedy programs etc. KAW members working in the US army were honoured at the function and gifts to High-school graduates were also distributed. More than 370 people attended the program. KAW President Mr. Babu Parayil welcomed the Audience & Secretary Mr. Santhosh Nair delivered the Vote of Thanks. The Xmas Program Committee headed by Mr. Ojus John was well supported by Mr. Santhosh Moolayil, Mr. Ganapathi Raman, Mr. Prakash Menon etc. Click here for photos of the celebrations.. Onam Celebrations, 2006
KAW celebrated Onam on September 9th, 2006 at the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center which started with a sumptuous Onam Sadhya (Buffet lunch) and a variety entertainment show.
